The Tennessee Heart Center, located inside Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, has been a regional referral center for patients with cardiovascular disease for more than 20 years.

As a leader in cardiac services, the Tennessee Heart Center began performing cardiac catheterization in 1982, open heart surgery in 1983, coronary angioplasty in 1983, coronary atherectomy in 1992 and coronary stent angioplasty in 1993.

Since its inception, the Tennessee Heart Center has been dedicated to excellence in patient care and the provision of the latest technology available. Of utmost importance is the exceptional care and concern for our patients. This dedication to our profession and our commitment to education and the community that the Tennessee Heart Center has established itself as a leader in the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education of those in need of cardiac care. Our goal is to provide cardiac patients with the best possible opportunities to live long and healthier lives.

Our Mission

The Tennessee Heart Center is committed to excellence in the diagnosis, treatment, education and rehabilitation of patients with cardiovascular disease. We will provide premium quality patient care, advanced state-of-the-art technology with an increased efficiency of operations.

 

The 148 Bed Heart Center Includes:

  • 1 coronary care unit (CCU) with a total of 18 beds
  • 3 progressive coronary care (telemetry) units (total of 89 beds)
  • 12 bed cardiovascular surgical intensive care unit (CVICU)
  • 29 bed surgical progressive care (telemetry) unit
  • 4 operating suites dedicated to cardiovascular surgery
  • 4 Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories
  • Post Catheterization Outpatient Recovery Unit (6 beds)
  • Special Procedures Lab (Swans-Ganz; Lifeports; temporary pacemakers; chest tubes; nerve block)
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation Facility with indoor walking track and exercise center
  • Echocardiography (M-Mode; 2-D echocardiography; Doppler-Peripheral Vascular; Color Flow; Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE); Stress Echo)
  • Mobile Echo Services available to area hospitals/clinics to provide the following services: M-Mode; 2-D echocardiography; Doppler-Peripheral Vascular studies; Color Flow.

Diagnostic Testing of the Heart

The full range of non-invasive and invasive services provided by the Tennessee Heart Center enables its physicians to identify problems and recommend the most appropriate and expedient course of treatment.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is designed to return to the mainstream of society those individuals who have had: a heart attack; coronary artery bypass surgery; heart transplants; angioplasty; stent placement; angina; or are at high risk for heart disease. This twelve week program meets three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings for exercise and education classes. Members exercise under supervision with telemetry monitoring in our 6,000 square foot exercise area equipped with the most up to date equipment. Weekly education classes are offered on subjects such as: Medications; Dietary Modification/Weight Control; Stress Management; Dealing with Emotions; Risk Factors for Heart Disease; Anatomy and Physiology of the Heart; Exercise Guidelines; Smoking Cessation Classes (coordinated through our Respiratory Therapy Department). A separate exercise maintenance program is offered in the afternoons. The Tennessee Heart Center also offers an active support group known as the Cardi-Action Club for patients, spouses, family members and significant others. To enter the Cardiac Rehab program, ask your physician for a referral during your follow-up visit. The Cardiac Rehabilitation Center is located in an easily accessible area of our hospital with reserved free parking.
