The new Women's Center at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital offers expectant parents choices, the conveniences of home, and the highest quality medical care.
The third floor of General Hospital is dedicated to the West Tennessee Women's Center offering services including these:
- Maternity Services
- Lactation Services
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Childbirth Education and Parenting Programs
Maternity Services: experienced obstetricians, skilled midwives, and specially-trained nurses oversee vaginal births in each of our labor-delivery recovery rooms. These rooms are private and professionally decorated. Cesarean sections are performed in one of our two operating suites, located in the Labor and Delivery department. We support mom's choice for natural or anesthesia-assisted childbirth. It is mom's choice! And we look forward to playing Brahm's Lullaby throughout the hospital after every daytime delivery!
After your baby arrives, you will move to the new Mother-Baby Unit, when you and your caregivers decide it is time. This is a modern, 42-bed area where specially-trained nurses practice family-centered nursing. Moms have choices here and babies can either room-in with moms or stay in the fully staffed nursery. Family bonding time is offered daily from noon until 2 p.m. to make sure your new family has quiet time together without unwanted interruptions.
Some exciting services for families:
- Parents will receive a snack box with salty and sweet treats just in case you need a snack between meals.
- Parents will receive complimentary beverages: all you have to do is ask your nurse.
- Moms will no longer have to wear standard-issued hospital gowns. Moms will get to wear colorful gowns that are more sophisticated and can be worn if breastfeeding.
- Newborn photography
- Optional on-line web nursery
To ease your mind, a strong security system is in force to protect you and your baby.
We deliver more than 3,000 babies every year, so pre-admission (or Storking) is encouraged for mothers. Done after the fifth month of pregnancy in the Admitting department, this provides immediate check-in when its time for delivery.
