Adopt a Little General

The hospital can be a very scary place for a child.  Unfamiliar people and surroundings can make a young patient frightened and anxious.  Often times a child takes comfort in something to cling to which can provide a greater sense of security.  For almost 20 years, that something has been Little General, the beloved mascot for pediatric services at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.  The plush blue-spotted dogs have helped to ease many fears by cuddling with little ones during treatments, procedures and recovery.

Each child who stays in the pediatric unit at General receives a plush dog of their very own to love and take home.  Recently, the supply of dogs was depleted and staff members took the opportunity to redesign the mascot and give him a more updated look.  With input from a children's focus group, Little General now wears blue jeans and a t-shirt and is easier for children to cuddle.

Donate a Little General

More than 1,500 Little General dogs are given to pediatric patients each year.  Therefore, the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation has established a fund to help replenish the supply of plush dogs.  Dogs may be adopted for $20 each and will then be placed into the loving arms of a child in the hospital.
