Milan General Hospital, a member of the American Hospital Association and Tennessee Hospital Association, is licensed by the State of Tennessee and has been approved by the Department of Health and Human Service for participation in Medicare and TennCare programs and accredited by The Joint Commission.

Milan General Hospital has 70 acute care beds with 12 being designated as Swing Beds and three Critical Care Beds.  It offers a wide range of primary care, acute care, intensive care and Rehab services close to home.  The hospital became a wholly-owned affiliate of West Tennessee Healthcare on January 1, 1998.  Address is 4039 Highland, Milan, Tennessee  38382.  The service area spans West Tennessee with the primary serve being Milan, North Gibson County and Carroll County.

Departments and Services

The Emergency Department meets the needs of the community and North Gibson County providing required immediate attention for an illness or injury.  It is designated as a Basic Pediatric Emergency Facility by the State and is a Chest Pain Center.  It is staffed by RNs and a physician 24/7.

Inpatient and Outpatient Surgery services are available 24/7.  Procedures performed range from diagnostic endoscopies to general and vascular surgical procedures.  We also have physicians performing plastic and reconstructive surgery and podiatry cases.

The cafeteria is open Monday – Friday for breakfast and lunch serving not only our patients but visitors, employees and the community healthy homemade meals.

Rehabilitation Services (Swing Bed) – is a comprehensive rehabilitation program offering physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.  The goals are to assist patients in recovering to their fullest potential from illness or injury.  Persons who can benefit from the full scope of rehab services may include those individuals with stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic diagnoses (including joint replacements and amputations),and many other neurological and physical illnesses or injuries.  We provide inpatient rehab as well as skilled care.  The skilled care program is referred to as Swing Bed and is offered to Medicare patients and select private insurance.  The program allows the patient to stay close to home while receiving short term rehab/skilled services.  Requirements to be admitted to swing bed program are as follows:

  • Medicare patients must have been hospitalized for acute care (inpatient stay) for at least three consecutive days, within the last 30 days for the same condition.
  • The patient must be admitted by a physician.
  • Must be able to tolerate therapy and/or need skilled nursing care.

Radiology department offers a variety of services necessary to assist physicians in making a prompt and accurate diagnosis.  Test offered to include CT Scan (CAT Scan), vascular ultrasound Doppler for veins and arteries, digital mammography and general x-rays for trauma, routine and diagnostic procedures.
