Before Your Surgery

For the convenience of our patients, please call to schedule your pre-admitting lab tests, anesthesia evaluation, and other exams that are needed before your surgery or procedure. As soon as the doctor schedules your surgery, call 731-541-6919 to schedule your pre-admitting. All pre-admitting will be done at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in the Admitting Department. The Admitting Department is located on the first floor of the new patient care tower.

The time it takes for pre-admitting will depend on your medical history. Please allow up to two hours for your pre-admitting.

Your doctor will give you instructions for what you should do the day or night before your surgery or procedure. This may include showering with a special soap, not eating after a certain time, and other instructions. Please abide by your doctor's orders. We also recommend that you:

  • Remove all piercing jewelry (ears, nose, naval, eyebrow, etc.).
  • Remove make up and nail polish (toe and finger nails).
  • Leave your valuables at home.
  • Bring your medications (including insulin) that you take (over the counter, prescription, and vitamins) with you to the hospital.
  • Bring your contact lens case or eye glasses case.
  • A copy of your living will or durable power of attorney for healthcare if you have one of those documents.
