At West Tennessee Healthcare, we’re proud to tell stories that uplift and inspire. The ones that remind us why we do what we do. Our Be the Good series shines a light on the people, partnerships, and purpose-driven moments making a difference across West Tennessee.

Boots & Bling
Each February, hundreds of women across West Tennessee come together for Boots & Bling, the region’s largest women-only event. On the surface, it’s a fun-filled night of dancing, laughter, and community. But behind the music and sparkle, there’s something bigger happening—something life-changing.
This year, the event raised $12,400 to support the Friends of Heart Youth EKG Screening Initiative, a program providing free heart screenings for student-athletes, band members, and ROTC cadets across 19 counties in West Tennessee. Thanks to funds raised, 250 students were screened—and 12 heart abnormalities were detected that might have otherwise gone unnoticed.
One of those students was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome, a condition that can cause dangerously rapid heartbeats and, if untreated, may lead to cardiac arrest. Now, because of this early detection, that student is receiving care and has a safe path forward—all thanks to a night out that many saw as just a fun event.
Youth EKG Initiative
Heart health is a serious issue in our youth. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death on school campuses and the number one cause of death in student-athletes. About 1 in every 300 young people unknowingly lives with a heart condition that puts them at risk. But through proactive screening—and community support—we can change that.
Piloted last year at North Side High School in Jackson, the youth EKG initiative is expanding across public, private, and home schools with one goal: to make heart screenings a regular part of school physicals. It’s not just prevention—it’s peace of mind for parents, coaches, and the kids themselves.
And it’s not possible without events like Boots & Bling—and the women who show up to make a difference.
Here in West Tennessee, we believe doing good doesn’t have to look like a grand gesture. Sometimes it’s showing up in your boots, dancing with your friends, and unknowingly helping save a life.
We’re proud to say that Boots & Bling is more than a party. It’s a celebration of heart health, community strength, and the power of women in West Tennessee.
