How Focused Ultrasound Works
Using MRI guidance, focused ultrasound precisely targets the area of the brain responsible for tremors. Ultrasound waves create a small therapeutic lesion that reduces tremor symptoms, often visible in real time during the procedure. Patients stay awake and participate in simple tasks—like drawing a spiral—to help guide the treatment.
Who’s Eligible?
Patients must:
Be 22 years or older
Have a diagnosis of Essential Tremor or tremor-dominant Parkinson’s disease
Have tried two or more medications without improvement
Pass a CT scan to confirm skull density suitable for the procedure

About Dr. Douglas Taylor
Dr. Taylor, a Memphis native, was inspired by a family of medical professionals. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and completed medical school with Highest Honors at UT Health Science Center in Memphis. He trained under Dr. Aaron Bond, a pioneer in focused ultrasound, during his neurosurgery residency.
Today, Dr. Taylor provides state-of-the-art care for patients with tremors, spine disorders, brain tumors, trauma, and more—using the latest minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques.
