Bio

Hetal Patel, MD, a board-certified thoracic and general surgeon, joined West Tennessee Healthcare in 2017 after completing his thoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Kentucky. Before that, he obtained his undergraduate degrees at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his medical degree from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. Dr. Patel then returned to Birmingham to complete his general surgery residency at Baptist Health Systems of Alabama.

Dr. Patel’s specialties encompass a wide range of cardiac and thoracic diseases affecting the heart, lungs, and esophagus. He also performs selected vascular procedures. A proponent of minimally invasive and minimal access techniques, Dr. Hetal Patel has a particular interest in robotic techniques and percutaneous valve interventions for cardiac and thoracic surgeries.
