Through Career Mapping, Caitlin took a proactive step toward advancing her career by enrolling at Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC), where she is currently pursuing her Associate of Applied Science in Health Information. While continuing her role as a Coder, she has remained focused on aligning her current experience with her future career goals.
What sets Caitlin apart is her willingness to go beyond the classroom. During her clinical work, she recognized the value of real-world exposure and took the initiative to connect with the Health Information Management (HIM) department. Rather than waiting for opportunities to come to her, Caitlin actively reached out to department leadership to express her interest in learning more about the field and gaining hands-on insight.
As a result of her efforts, Caitlin has successfully established a connection with HIM leadership and has plans to participate in job shadowing experiences as she approaches her graduation date. This forward-thinking approach not only strengthens her knowledge and skill set but also positions her for a smoother transition into her desired role after completing her degree.
