Bio
Ryan Nerland, MD, is a primary care physician with West Tennessee Medical Group Primary Care & Pediatrics Jackson. He is trained in both internal medicine and pediatrics, allowing him to care for patients across every stage of life, from children and teens to adults and families.
Dr. Nerland was born in Wisconsin and moved to the Memphis area as an infant. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University, where he graduated with honors. He went on to earn his medical degree from St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies, completing his first two years of medical training in the Caribbean and his clinical rotations at hospitals in New York City.
Dr. Nerland completed a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. After residency, he served as chief resident in pediatrics for one year and later joined the pediatric faculty for four years. During that time, he also served as an associate program director for the pediatric residency program.
After adopting their son, Liam, Dr. Nerland and his wife chose to return to West Tennessee to be closer to family. He spent five years working as an inpatient physician before transitioning into primary care.
Dr. Nerland believes in building long-term relationships with patients and families through listening, clear communication and thoughtful care. He is passionate about helping patients stay well, manage ongoing health concerns and feel confident in their care at every age.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Ryan Nerland and his wife are active in the canine rescue community and often foster puppies for adoption. He is an avid Mississippi State sports fan and also enjoys traveling and spending time with his family.
