Scheduling and Pre-Registration

Your surgeon’s office staff will schedule your procedure at one of West Tennessee Healthcare’s seven surgical locations. As a convenience for our patients, West Tennessee Healthcare is pleased to offer pre-registration for outpatient procedures and testing. Pre-registration allows us to verify your insurance coverage and clarify any special instructions that your physician or provider may have. It also allows us to provide you with a good-faith estimate of the costs associated with your procedure or test.

You will have a Pre-Admission phone call OR Pre-Admission Visit

Pre-admission Phone Call

If you have not been reached by our pre-admit nurse at least one week prior to your surgery date:

  • Please call (731) 287-2504 to speak with a pre-admit nurse about your health history.
  • Speaking with your pre-admission nurse before surgery is so important that not doing so could delay your surgery.
  • Please have your medications available to go over with the nurse.
  • You may need blood work or EKG of your heart before surgery. Please let the pre-admission nurse know if you have had either of these tests recently.
  • YOU WILL BE CALLED 1 DAY PRIOR TO SURGERY FOR YOUR ARRIVAL TIME.
  • If you take Aspirin, Aleve, Advil, Ibuprofen or any other blood thinners please let the pre-admission nurse know.
  • If you take Mounjaro, Semaglutide, Wegovy, or Ozempic or any other weight loss medication, please let your pre-admission nurse know.
  • If you have had a cold, congestion or fever in the last week…please let pre-admission nurse know.
  • Make sure you have a driver the day of surgery. You will not be able to drive yourself home.

 Pre-Admission Visit

The pre-admission nurse will determine if you need an in person pre-admission visit when they call you.

  • If so, please bring a list of your medications and previous surgeries.
  • If you see any doctors for your heart, lungs or kidneys, please bring their name and office contact information.
  • Please know your visit will probably last for one hour.
  • Please wear a comfortable button up shirt in case we to perform an EKG or lab work the day of your visit.

Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) is also a part of preparing for your surgery. The PAT nurses work closely with anesthesia to make sure you are provided with the best anesthesia care during your surgery. During this visit, we will review your medical history, obtain a list of medications, and discuss additional tests needed prior to the morning of surgery. Testing, including blood work, urinalysis, X-rays, or EKGs may be required before your procedure. The Pre-Admission Testing Clinic located at the North Hospital provides the PAT process for patients scheduled for surgery at Jackson Madison County General Hospital, North Hospital, and West Tennessee Surgery Center. The goal is for the PAT nurse to reach out to you once your surgery has been scheduled. However, the PAT Clinic can be reached at (731) 661-2211, if needed.

You will need this information to complete your pre-registration forms:

  • Your Insurance Card(s) – Any and all medical insurance including Medicare, Medicaid, and TennCare.
  • Your Physician or Provider’s Full Name.
  • Your Social Security Number.
  • Your Employment Information.

Phone Pre-Registration Process: If you are a candidate for a phone pre-admission, someone from West Tennessee Healthcare will call you. You will receive approximately three (3) phone calls.

  1. Registration — This is for your insurance information, current address and phone number, emergency contacts, etc. Please inform the registration person the best number to contact you during the day.
  2. Anesthesia and Health Assessment — An admission nurse will call you to discuss your health history. Having your current medications, past medical history and past surgical history available will make this process go smoothly and quickly. The nurse will be able to address any concerns about your surgery or direct you to the correct person that can assist you. You may be required to come into the Pre-Admission Testing clinic for labs, EKG, or Chest X-ray depending on your surgeon’s orders and your medical history.
  3. Nurse Liaison — You may receive a call from the nurse liaison for the arrival time for your surgery. You may call the day before your surgery between 2:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. to inquire about your arrival time if you wish.
