WTH Heart & Vascular is the highest performing heart team in Tennessee.
Our main point is not just that heart surgery in Jackson is as good as Memphis or Nashville, it is better. How do we back up this claim? Only the WTH Heart & Vascular team:
- Has earned the National Distinction of Excellence as a HeartCare Center from the American College of Cardiology, making WTH Heart & Vascular among the top 6% of heart programs in the nation.
- Is consistently an STS 3-star heart surgical program, the highest rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the most respected, independent heart surgery rating system in the nation.
- Has earned an overall composite quality score for CABG surgery of 98.3% the highest in the state of Tennessee.
- Is accredited by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) for both primary PCI and Cardiac catheterization.
- Is also certified for transcatheter valve repair and replacement by the ACC.
- Achieves the highest recognition for speed in getting heart attack patients from the ED door to the coronary cath lab – a Platinum Performance designation from the American College of Cardiology.
- Is accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission for echocardiography.
- Treats more than 5,000 heart and vascular patients annually.
- Offers accredited Chest Pain Centers at 6 locations across 18 West Tennessee counties.
- Provides comprehensive cardiology services, including minimally invasive interventional services like TAVR and Watchman, plus electrophysiology, care for arrhythmia and heart failure.
- WTH was the first in the state to perform the TCAR procedure, which stands for transcarotid artery revascularization. The procedure is a safer option for many patients with a narrowed carotid artery that could lead to stroke and death.
- Provides state-of-the-art robotic surgery for minimally invasive valve repair and arterial bypass.
- Was first in Tennessee to perform robotic percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs)
- Features a team of cardiothoracic surgeons, vascular surgeons, and cardiologists who are exceptionally trained and prepared. All physicians on the team are board certified.
- In August 2024, WTH brought all of this talent and expertise together in a new, two-story WTH Heart & Vascular Center that is able to diagnose and treat a full continuum of cardiovascular ailments. At the center cardiologists and surgeons will work together with unprecedented levels of collaboration. The center is connected by bridge to WTH Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, providing the heart and vascular team quick access to patients in the hospital or emergency department.
- WTMG providers began treating patients with coronary artery disease who are experiencing in-stent restenosis (ISR) with the AGENTTM Drug-Coated Balloon.
- WTMG providers began performing a new atrial fibrillation therapy to treat patients with advanced atrial fibrillation using the EPi-Sense STTM Coagulation Device.
When all of these attributes are considered, they support the claim that the heart and vascular team at WTH is an elite program nationally and certainly the highest performing in Tennessee.
