On July 18, 2023, Bolivar General Hospital, Inc. was awarded $9,610,000 from the Tennessee Department of Health Healthcare Resiliency Program Capital Investment Program (HRP-CI). These monies will be used to partly fund the construction of a new West Tennessee Healthcare Bolivar Hospital that will replace the current building that was constructed in 1974.
The new hospital that will have inpatient beds, outpatient services and an emergency room will be designed to meet current and future needs of rural Hardeman and surrounding counties.
How the New Bolivar Hospital Will Improve Healthcare Access
The new West Tennessee Healthcare Bolivar Hospital is designed to make healthcare more accessible, modern, and responsive for Bolivar, Hardeman County, and neighboring communities. Here’s how:
- Expanded Services Close to Home. The new hospital will provide inpatient beds, outpatient services, and a fully equipped emergency room–so more people can get the care the need without traveling far.
- Prepared for the Future. With negatve pressure isolation rooms, the hospital will be read to safely care for patients during infectious disease outbreaks, protecting both patients and the community.
- Modern, Efficient Care. The new facility will be cost-effective to operate and equipped with up-to-date technology, making it easier to deliver high-quality care for today’s needs and tomorrow’s challenges.
- Convenient Location. Built on land donated by the City of Bolivar, the hospital’s new location on Vildo Road off Highway 64 will be easy to reach for residents of Bolivar and surrounding rural areas.
- A Commitment to Community Health. “Expanding healthcare access to our rural communities is not just a commitment—it’s a responsibility,” says Tina Prescott, President and CEO of West Tennessee Healthcare. “This new hospital represents our ongoing dedication to ensuring that every patient, no matter where they live, has access to high-quality care close to home.”
The new hospital is a major step forward in providing reliable, compassionate, and local healthcare for everyone in the region.
